This is really crazy to me though because if the 14th birthday “celebration” was a lesson then everyone failed the assignment but is being weird about it because they are simultaneously looking for someone to blame but unsure who to blame 😭 like there’s layers to this!!! Sorry but grandma is being mad ignorant and selfish ugh I get this book is also supposed to make the reader consider generational differences and kids internalizing adults issues with intimacy and bonding but GRANDMA IS DOING TOO MUCH!!!!

The dynamic between grandma and grand pop is kind of crazy like when he feels bad or is dealing with more difficult emotions they have an understanding how to interact and not interact with each other but something about grandpop locking himself away and dwelling seems crazy yet unsurprising
