I would say the style is informal in the way that Sister Helen writes the book. I think that the tone is very serious and solemn. You can see how she empathizes with Patrick, but also thinks what he and his brother did was wrong.

Right now, Sister Helen is sending letters to Patrick to learn more about him, but he has not talked at all about his death sentence or his murders. She has started looking through his files to learn more about his crime.

I think that so far, Sister Helen Prejean can be biased. It is not like she has done research on death row inmates, and she has talked about biases against people who aren't like herself.
