Finished part one: verging on four stars so far. Banville's writing really is quite skillful and impressive (maybe somewhat too focused on style?). What drags it down for me is that even though i do prefer the flashbacks, i don't think this whole Proustian type of framing device is really my thing. At least you get breathers here.
