The freedom to move, to associate with others, & vote in elections is given only to some during states of emergencies but the state demands obedience of everyone, setting a precedent for who really has the power.
The state relies on taxation & contributions of the rich to function. The state is necessary for a commercial society as well.

Athenian democracy is seen as our predecessors but it was possible because of slave labor & excluding women from government. There was no political integration for migrants or asylum seekers, they were made into slaves. Only the rich men were in “elected” office.
