This story is flowing at such a more patient pace than Vagrant Gods. Vagrant Gods went from ambush to fight to battle to finale. Astral Kingdoms feels like, so far, David is allowing his characters to breathe a little bit with adding interesting worldbuilding at the same time. I don't know what happened between The Slain Divine and The Radiant King but it's a big step up.

2 battles within 5 chapters. I really hope this doesn't turn into a John Gwynne situation where there's so many small battles they all start blending together and become meaningless lol

This is already solving my issue I had with Vagrant Gods in that the island felt empty. Not so much the case for AK in the first 41 pages. And Faron is immediately likeable as the MC.
