Brontë says that Hareton is visibly superior to Linton both in physical strength and natural talent and character but has been deliberately stunted from any level of improvement by Heathcliffs deprivation of Hareton. In other words he has natural potential but he’s held back by cruel circumstances. Catherine is too stupid to recognize how superior is the true heir of Wuthering Heights to its usurper Linton.
