Toni Morrison captures the feeling of inadequacy portrayed in young black woman. We meet Percola, a young black woman who is apart of a family who all believe themselves to be “ugly” and everyday experiences led to their convictions. Percola wishes everyday to be “pretty”, to have blue eyes as she believes all bad things have happened to her from her lack of beauty, not from the world’s own pain.
