Why do I find this novel so boring? I keep wanting to focus on the plot instead of elaborate scenes or ordinary life. It seems that the plot or meaning of this story is the poetic description of vignettes of ordinary life in a South American colonial city.

Trying this again with an audiobook. Last time I got to page 70 or 90. I found it too slow. Exposition too long.
