I rarely write about a book before I’ve finished it, and I also very rarely begin reading a book knowing anything about it. In this case, that tendency really failed me because my assumptions about the book (that it would provide some moral or spiritual guidance for living in this era) was wildly off. I found the first couple of pages very disturbing and kept looking for reassurance that it’s not designed for.
