I am very, very glad that Dickens is back in England where he belongs.

I do not enjoy Dickens' writing about America. If you removed the American chapters, this novel would stand up well with his others. On the other hand, I find Mark Tapley a wonderful character and without the American chapters there would be little use for him.

I have had this tabled for so long now that I almost feel as if I need to start over...but I will probably just soldier on when I can get back to it.

Very slow getting into this one. Need to devote more attention to it.

slow start, which is often the case with Dickens. Hard to judge at all with less than 100 pages undertaken.
