Lots of fake author profiles friending people on Goodreads, lately. The more people who just click "Accept," the more social capital these accounts gain for future friend requests.
Goodreads does not appear to take my reports of "This is a fake account" seriously until I notify the author being impersonated and they contact Goodreads themselves.
Stay frosty, folks.

Author profiles? I receive regular requests from fake female members and report them every time. The hallmarks are photos copied from social media, all 'friends' are mature males, few if any books read/shelved and in some cases, they're able to copy books I've recently read or added to the TBR. Had no idea these morons were impersonating authors though

> all 'friends' are mature malesSo true.
Danielle Steel is the latest impersonation attempt on me. Maybe the idea is that small-time authors like me will be so excited at the prospect of friending authors with big trad contracts that we won't think "Does this make sense?" Whereas users are more likely to want friend requests from other users, especially if they have attractive photos.
