Starting to get irritated with this one because while I appreciate Macy’s compassion, she’s going so far as to basically resolve addicts of all responsibility for their actions. Instead she places passive blame on the justice system, abstinence based treatment centers, and tough love family members.

Girl, the political bias jumped out. I feel like the author maybe a little too personally close to this story. Can’t blame her, who isn’t? However, the needle exchanges and opioid weaning pills she describes have PLENTY of issues of their own outside of Trumpian opposition.

Where Empire of Pain came at the opioid epidemic from the corporate perspective, I think that Dopesick is a good companion read because the emphasis is placed more on the victims

Outside of subject matter, feeling personally connected to this one because it mostly covers the crisis in Virginia
