"I do really wish to destroy it!" cried Frodo. "Or, well, to have it destroyed. I am not made for perilous quests. I wish I had never seen the Ring! Why did it come to me? Why was I chosen?"
"Such questions cannot be answered," said Gandalf. . . "But you have been chosen and you must therefore use such strength and heart and wits as you have."

Jennifer nyc I tried reading The Hobbit several times, starting as a child, and I could never get past the first page. Are you liking the writing? Are you reading this by yourself?

Julie G Jennifer,
This is the exact question I would have asked someone else, not that long ago! I've loved the movies, of course (because: Viggo Mortensen), but I read THE HOBBIT in my 20s and was pretty bored by it. I decided to reread it for my 1930s project, and I read it aloud to my youngest, and we both freaking LOVED IT. She is the most reluctant reader out of my three, and I almost fainted when she asked if we could "continue on." The names are SO tedious in this one, it tires my brain to read an entire chapter, out loud, in a day, but, wow, what a classic! I'm loving this experience with her.
