I would have liked to read “The Gift” as a whole book. It made me forget that it was only a short story.

Too many characters in this one. Confusing.

“A Carrot for a Chestnut” was the best one so far.

“The abyss of remorse opening beneath him was too painful. He clutched at every lie to keep himself out.”

I liked this story more than the others

The self justifications are well-written; that’s really what it’s like to make excuses for your behavior. It’s amazing what the mind can conjure up in order to sleep at night.

“For fhree years after his father died Martin Retsov abandoned his chosen profession.” Dick, please use commas!
