This novel is a joy to read for me, on so many levels. It's simply magical to have an insight into Japanese youth culture, especially set in 1969. I wish that I had more insights into it, into the writing, but I guess that the big take away is that young people in college meet other young people there, and develop relationships that last their whole lives, just like in colleges here. (Except for me.)

This novel is quite atmospheric, ghostlike almost. That's why I have been enjoying it so much so far. It's a real head trip into the heads of Japanese youth, in Japan, around/in Tokyo during the 1980's. I have never read anything quite like it.
