No, I'm not a slow reader. I'm just reading this over and over again. I hear there's an audio version with Sean Connery reading it. That would distract me too much with the richness of his voice. I once had a professor whose accent lulled me that way. I can't to this day remember a single thing had to say though I was enthralled.

David wrote: "I love this poem!"I'd only read Cavafy's love poems before this, David. It's quite different. It's bigger somehow. The love poems are playful and delightful for that. This one is more in the range of oratory and Shakespeare.
Understood..Connery has been at the top of my favorite actor list for ages though the rest of them are equal.
