Mississippi wasn’t equipped like the western states. Wildfires weren’t the norm here, so they were ill prepared for future threats.

(maybe it’s dependence. Aunt Val saw that you were spending so much time with Sean and she felt neglected. So she wanted your attention again or to somehow punish you?)

he was constantly proving that he paid attention and he cared about her. And he used that knowledge to take care of her in a way that didn’t make her feel incapable or stifled, just supported.

He seemed to have some old-fashioned sensibility about a certain amount of time needing to pass before they fell into bed. Maybe it was because he was a preacher’s kid.
