Queue the painfully shallow villain that is only gonna be the villain because the author is gonna write them into being a rapist, ignoring that he’s giving off the same creepy vibes at the romantic interest.

Author is terrible at writing smut, reading it is a mess. They’re a pile of limbs bending ways they shouldn’t be able to, and I’m certain she’s described them having more hands than they could.

This author has zero idea when she wants to set this novel. It’s it a modern day fantasy realm? Is it 17th century provincial France? Who knows? Certainly not “Willow Winters.”

The retelling aspects of this novel are interesting because it’s one of the only retellings I’ve seen that actually includes details from the original book by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. This book has the prince rebuke the romantic advances of the enchantress leading to him being cursed.

3 chapters in, and just 3 chapters of smut. The plot dancing around the edges makes for an interesting Beauty and the Beast retelling. Unfortunately it’s bogged down by the poorly executed vulgar language and copious sex scenes. Not being into BDSM, I’m almost certain this hits the same level of bad representation as “50 Shades of Grey.”
