“It’s okay, Lila,” he says. “I’m ready. After all these years of being alone, after all these years of thinking love was futile, I finally met you.” He smiles. “I finally found my Match.”

As I’m watching, Cupid opens his eyes slowly, then smiles. “You shouldn’t be here,” he says. “Not that I’m complaining.”
“Are you feeling better now?”
“Mm-hmm,” he says sleepily. “Much better now.”
I smile, then stand and start to walk toward the door.
“Lila.
Stay with me. Just for the night. Just once.”

I’ll make sure I’m back for the last dance. Promise.”

“Well,” I say dryly, “I suppose that’s okay. I mean, as long as you’re back for the last dance.”
He looks at me intensely. “I’d battle a Roman legion to get to dance with you.”
Out of the corner of my eye I see Cupid smirk as he turns his gaze back to the road. “I’d like to see a few Arrows try and stop me,” he says.

“You don’t like the idea of matches,” I remind him softly.
Cupid smiles and rolls onto his back. He shrugs. “I think maybe I’m starting to.”

Cupid turns and walks into the classroom, but before he disappears he looks over his shoulder. “By the way, I’m no longer so interested in getting to know Chloe,” he says. “It’s you I want to get to know better, Lila Black.”


I don’t really know how I feel about this yet
But I’m still reading…so I don’t hate it
