“I liked it when he got into these reflective moods, telling stories about Mother, about life back on Earth. Although they skirted the center of a great pain, they were a comfort to me, and I suspect to him, too. They didn’t come freighted with misery or regret; they were simply good memories, taken from his pocket like a timepiece, polished and cared for in the waning sunlight.”
