Lord John and the Haunted Soldier is a very gruesome tale that made my skin cruel. I wouldn’t want to come across him the way Lord John has to. I wouldn’t want to have to deal with my darkest memories through my fellow soldiers. Well done Lord John. I can’t wait to see you again soon.

The supernatural elements in ‘Succubus’ are new and intriguing but they can sometimes make the narrative hard to follow. I don’t think I would want to come across a female demon who has sex with sleeping men.
There is still that pull though that keeps me hooked. I don’t know how Gabaldon does it.
This story is set in 1757.

‘Lord John and the Succubus’ is ***, It was certainly easier to read than‘ Hellfire’. These short stories are shrouded in the supernatural.
