A multifaceted, well-oiled magic system led the charge in this incredibly short fantasy story by Sebastien de Castell. The Dowager Magus is a quick shot of his writing ability and gives you a feel for what's in store if you read the rest of the series. I thought there was a lot to admire about this story and will need to dive deeper into the rest of the author's novels for having read it. An easy 5 stars for me.
