This book could've been a new favourite if it wasn't boring for 150 pages after one character completely disappeared. There were things happening then, but they didn't have any relevance in the end.
And I'm SO sorry, but ending a story about HELL that happy and making the characters didn't lose ANYTHING in the process is just way too positive.
Still, I teared up so many times because of the book's philosophy :3

These are two of the most complex and flawed characters I have ever read about! Very brave of Kuang to write them like that, and I enjoy every minute of it :)
This book also contains a very good and detailed portrayal of grooming, grooming in academics and how academics are able to break people apart. Both of the protagonists are boderline suicidal because of their studies and the pressure they're under. Crazy!

Always such a delight to read a book by Kuang <3 Although she is GOOD at writing action scenes, she really just takes her time to dive into philosophical themes and let her characters talk about their ideas intensely. Others might find that boring, but I just LOVE it! A lot more authors need to make their stories calmer and deeper instead of faster and more surfice-level!
