Always the effort of resistance, of counter-motion, of breaking off into what is untried and unknown: yet the unknown seems in its distance and blank mystery to contain for me a form of hope, a strange force that is pure possibility.

Jan-Maat Pure escapism?

Something like that (it wouldn't be Cusk if not soon coming to the conclusion that '"After the exhilaration of escape, we find that we are all still here, unaltered.")

Nonetheless, I was reminded of the poem of Emily Dickinson:

I dwell in Possibility –
A fairer House than Prose –
More numerous of Windows –
Superior – for Doors –

Of Chambers as the Cedars –
Impregnable of eye –
And for an everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky –

Of Visitors – the fairest –
For Occupation – This –
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise –

I think Keats would have liked that, just to add more poets to he confusion.
