I'm not far in at all but I'm SO enchanted!! Also, TIL Ruyi was historically also a male name.
I love the heroine's love for her family, she isn't beautiful & has a very slim chance of being chosen among the candidates, though I know she'll have to make the cut for there to be a story.
The magic of the festival and now in the palace has me so excited! I've not been so immersed in a book world for a long time
