I absolutely get why this is a classic. Just when I thought things went from interesting to entertaining (with a teenage narrator on a ship with buccaneers)…the author switched the narrator to a middle aged doctor on the ship. BOLD move! Love it. REALLY daring—it pairs well with pirates.
