This is my first Stacey Lee. Overall, I thought this was an interesting historical mystery. Lee gives great insight into Chinese culture (family dynamic, food, expectations, etc.) resilience towards Asian Americans in LA during the 1930s. The sisterly love between May and Gemma felt genuine and light hearted at time with when they poked up at each other.

My only gripe was the pacing of the book. it was very slow.
