Oddly one of my fave books this year. Did I know anything about Charlemagne before reading this ? No. Did I learn any relevant details about Charlemagne from reading this? No. But I gleaned a lot about the culture and political avenues of the time. The two parts of the book are first person accounts of the time, translated into English. I was intrigued by how and what they chose to describe. 10/10 Twas good
