The pacing has been great through most of this book, but this section is dragging a bit for me. I'm not sure why we're spending so much time on this particular event.

Cup full of Montblanc fountain pens? I’m in stitches! This satire is cutting and hilarious, but Tartt manages to maintain the air of suspense and mystery in spite of it. The irony is that being privy to these jokes makes me feel like an insider, which is the very thing she is critiquing, and the hypocrisy of understanding makes the text all the more powerful.

I just opened this book after listening to a podcast about it and I already feel like I’m getting called out.
