Newest prediction: Dane has secretly been duplicitous from the start, but he also actually has feelings for Violet. So, he’s trying to convince her to become a scribe so that he can enact his nefarious plans (probably has something to do with the wards being weakened) without having to somehow kill her. And Violet maybe is going to find out that the Separatists or whatever they’re called are actually justified.
