You can definitely hear the wires getting crossed between this plot and The New Girl which was published four years before this. But I do appreciate the overall spooky, foreboding and thrilling vibes. That batting cage scene was deranged.

I feel like Ryan is supposed to function as a twist character who isn’t on Annie’s side but I don’t remember him from any other scenes so far so he just feels plopped into the story for drama

I get that it’s awful for a high schooler to die but the description of an entry trophy case with one big pro photo of Louisa, Jonathon’s Dead GF in it covered with a black crepe paper veil is something only RL would dream up as being in an otherwise normal magnate prep school
