I didn't read the blurb before I started listening to this as an audiobook and I'd mixed it up with the author's other book series which I think is set in Roman times (?). I kept waiting for the timeline to go hundreds of years back from 1800s America but it never did 🥲 Maybe the cover should've been a clue
