Bath Miss: Had issues with this one. The love interest is 19 to his 30 and the story isn’t long enough to convince us they are a good match. It was also super weird when the guy disclaimed that the girl was anything to worry about to his fiancee because she was so young, but then turns right around after she breaks it off and courts the girl he just said there was no reason to be jealous of. 🥴 (1/5)

Snowdrift: I know these are short stories, but starting to get really tired of the insta love, age gap, worldly vs. naïve, same old locations (house, traveling, or inn), and Corinthian/doe eyed innocent that comprise every story. Again, I don’t feel like the books are this way, but these short stories are really disappointing. (1/5)

Hazard: Another fiasco, but this one a bit better. Miss Moreland is put up in a bet by her awful brother and she is so angry she readily agrees to leave with his equally foxed buddy, Carlington. I like that Miss Moreland had a plan and some sense of agency. I didn’t like that the whole “run away to Gretna Green and bump into somebody at an inn” seems to be such a standard plot for Heyer. The Duel: Another uncomfortable story that throws a young, naïve girl at a much older and more worldly gentlemen. She is mostly oblivious, he is taken with her innocence, pluck, and beauty. He decides to marry her. End of story. 🙃
Sadly told. No cause for affection between the pair (besides gratitude on her part, and really that’s not a good reason). Completely lacking the charm of Heyers books.

To Have the Honor: Better! An oblivious guy trying to do the honorable thing by letting the girl go, but is coerced to confess his feelings through his sister’s trickery. I liked that it showed Henrietta’s feelings to get us invested in the story. (4/5)

A Husband for Fanny: The possibility of huge age gap relationships is just strange. A mother thinks a 40 yr old (who she likes) wants to marry her teen daughter, but he’s actually not a weirdo and is trying to marry her. It feels like Heyer and her characters can’t decide whether age gap relationships are creepy or not. (2/5)

Pink Domino: Another swing and miss. Insta love with nothing to really recommend the characters. (1/5)

Pistols for Two: Good short story about boyhood passions & a kind interfering stranger. (4/5)
A Clandestine Affair: A fun switch up at the end, but too short to get emotionally invested. (3/5)
