Really shocking and disingenuous that pretty early on, the author redefines amrads (beardless youths depicted in Islamic Persian art), refusing to call them “boys” but instead older adolescents or men in their 20s. This rewrite completely sidesteps the reality that most “beardless youths” were, in fact, children, and erases the fact that historically, minors were deliberately treated as objects of desire.
