After encountering a wild bear, Lucy asks: "Wouldn't it be dreadful if some day in our own world, at home, men started going wild inside, like the animals here, and still looked like men, so that you'd never know which were which?"

I figure this is some of Lewis' commentary, but I'm not sure what he's getting at. Maybe the Axis powers in WWII?

Zach Welch When I read it early this year, I thought it was almost like a child-appropriate repackaging of his thesis in “The Abolition of Man.” If humans let their appetites, fears, and passions rule them, they risk losing the moral core that makes them human while still appearing perfectly human on the outside. That, in my mind, is Lewis’ truly frightening possibility.
