There was a part that stuck out to me that I literally cannot get over and that’s when Julia asks Winston what he thought of her when he first saw her and he immediately stated that he wanted to r*pe her and beat her head in….just wild. I was listening to this via audiobook and I just had to pause to really comprehend what I just read…

So far this is really setting up how ominous this world is.
“In the vast majority, there was no trial, no report of arrest. People simply disappeared,always during the night. Your named removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one time existence was denied and the forgotten. You were abolished, annihilated: vaporized was the usual word.”
