- powerful ppl have created this environment thru actual conspiracies (eg hiding sexual crimes) and unwise choices (eg not impeaching trump)
- ppl are afraid to reveal truths bc of online backlash and mockery
- when theories are proved, they're just called investigative journalism
- believing someone is to give power
