Ryan Why does this book go into so much excessive detail about outdated, obsolete cannon and gun technology?

Ryan I kind of feel like I was scammed a bit buying this book since it was labelled as sci-fi yet the planet is stuck using medieval level technology. What gives? Did I miss something here?

Ryan I feel like throwing shade on this book honestly because David Weber adds y's to names to make them sound more sophisticated than they actually are such as Wylsyn and so on. Also I think the idea of an archbishop almost getting assassinated and then preaching a sermon right after he's gotten shot is ridiculous. I understand that this book is probably supposed to be all melodramatic and what not but I had a difficult time suspending my disbelief on that. Someone so important would immediately be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

I find this book is overly cheesy, wordy, and not enough action happens in it to keep me interested and invested. Nothing ever happens.
