DNF at 65%. I tried. I wanted it to be good, but this leaves MUCH to be desired. It is wanting in flow, plot progression, moment of discovery, and character definition. At one point it swapped over to the dudes POV when this is only from the POV of the Siren the whole book. I wanted to read it because it was lauded by Rachel Gillig, but I assume she recommended it because they are part of the same publishing house.

This is lacking context. I can’t make heads or tails of who people are, their character motivations, why they believe certain people, nothing. While I don’t believe it spoon feeding a story, it is necessary to provide a backstory if you are going to start in the middle. It is necessary to provide examples of their character so we can build a profile. This is lacking, in that I have no idea about the MC
