‘Repent Harlequin’ and ‘I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream’ are the first two stories here, front loaded like a Greatest Hits; I hadn’t even heard of anything beyond that so, 25% in, I’m in an unknown landscape being exposed to an endless parade of horrors, my only company an indifferent narrator uninterested in offering hope or mercy.
