The author mentions a boy in South Africa marveling at him walking around Ellis Park in Johannesburg and remarking that he was "the first truly free black man" he had ever seen, and that same boy grew up to write "Kaffir Boy" which I pull out to display during Banned Books Week. I really like connections like that.
