Somehow my idea of “visionary fiction” means imagining creative solutions to our fucked-up world, not simply stories of near futures even worse than our present-day realities.

Holy f**k, Kendra Pierre-Louis absolutely dismantled the NYT in 2 pages. On the difference between journalism and activism:

“After the George Floyd protests… the climate desk at the New York Times kind of went back to status quo, which is to say, not looking at that intersection [between climate change and race], because it makes them profoundly uncomfortable.”

OHHHH was that story an extended metaphor to critique unhelpful pessimistic doomers in the conversation about social justice??!
