I don’t like it. Everything’s doom and gloom and darkness. Everyone’s bad even the main protagonist. There’s every kind of evil that you can possible imagine in this book including the rape of the main protagonist. Honestly I’m giving this a 2 star. I’d rate it higher if the writing style was elevated even, but it’s not. It’s boring, dry and lacks depth.

Not what I expected, it’s more modern and less modern than I expected. I had no idea it was going to be so dark either, there is not a single thread of joy in this book. No comedic relief. It’s just stark realities, prison, cold, torture and unequivocal loss. I have the impression that Helena thinks she has nothing to lose, but she’s going to find something and then lose it more completely than she did before.
