The chapters on how baptists came to break away from the first puritans over baptism, them during the Great Awakening, and during the Revolutionary war are all quite interesting and all stuff I didn’t know. Also, it’s hilarious how even during colonial times, the Anglicans had legit no idea what to think of their American Bap. neighbors during the awakening:) Dr Kidd and Hankins do a great job in this book

Noah Reimer The colonial years in American ended up with a lot of Baptist’s thrown into jail it turns out. Brings light to why the Baptist tradition always has a strong emphasis on religious freedom

Noah Reimer Also interesting to note is how the first puritans DIDNT seek out a “religiously free” society while the earliest baptists did

Noah Reimer Also, the baptists were doing missions work from day 1. Truly something to be highly appreciated by all Christians

Noah Reimer The tension and trouble between the Congregationalist puritans and the early American baptists is actually far more important to the story than I had thought it to be. Very interesting
