I don’t understand her family

Is this book about how she goes against her family’s taboo and thriving but never being celebrated by them? Are they the rotten tree?

So there’s a cultural shame for disabled people but is her family embarrassed of her disability or her inability to thrive the way they expect her to or…both?

Wtf is up with her family? Overprotective?

Did they really not cut down the tree for her?
