If Edward was... any other kind of vampire, his reluctance to turn Bella would make a lot of sense. The problem with Meyer's vampires is not so much that they sparkle or that they're different (you *should* be allowed to invent a different lore for vampires tbh), it's that there's no downside to being one. Rosalie has understandable reasons to dislike it, Edward, not so much. And it just makes him look like a prick.
