Such a frustrating story. I know it is only vol one and later volumes may expand things where I hope they will go, but there is a really original storyline in there which the author keeps pushing to one side. All those teen diversions: falling in love with a cool guy with film star looks and secret society initiation contests appear in so many other books. The racial dimension stands out so far when it is allowed to.
