Ready for some implicit talk about John of the Cross and the dark night of the senses in my homily tomorrow on Gaudate Sunday and the feast of John of the Cross.

“The night is a time for silence, rest, and sleep, a period of rejuvenation and quiet tranquility after a long day’s labor. Night is a time when lovers meet.”

The author is so casual about referencing John of the Cross. He will write, “John wrote….” Or “John had this to say….” Very first name basis and I’m half way through the book and it still startles me.
