There are some interesting aspects to the book, and it has its charms while also containing some things that nowadays cause eyeballs to roll... (E.g., the protagonist learns the ant-people's written language in a matter of days and then is able to communicate about complex abstract ideas involving culture, biology, etc.)

He learns the local written language of the giant ant people in a few days, and all about their history, and oh there's a human-like species nearby as well... Beautiful and with little fairy wings... Of course the "girl" is repulsed when she meets him and promptly faints...

Hmm, rather dated and silly so far, but amusing enough to keep going for a while... We'll see. I'm reading the Project Gutenberg edition, but with the snazzy yellow cover inserted from another source.
