I love this conversation between Laurence and Temeraire. Temeraire really pushes Laurence to see the world differently, to strip away what he’s always known to think more critically. Because if dragons are sentient, intelligent creatures, capable of dealing in philosophy, writing poetry, evaluating flight formations—they should be compensated for their service. They should have agency. Otherwise it IS slavery.
